About Us
Adrian and Bridgette run ATC
- Based in Sconser with the Cuillin on their doorstep and the sea metres from their home.
- Sconser is ideally located for All Things Cuillin with Sligachan, Glen Brittle and Elgol within easy reach. Classics such as Neist Point, the Quiraing and Old Man of Storr are easily accessed.
Adrian Trendall
- Adrian’s passion for climbing started in the mid 1980’s with rock climbing and winter climbing courses at Glenmore Lodge. He then climbed all over the UK from the Old Man of Hoy in the North to the Sennen in the South. He has climbed extensively in North Wales and Pembrokshire as a climbing guide as well as for pleasure. Adrian has also climbed some of the classics routes in Chamonix (Frendo Spur, Papillon’s Arete, North Face of the Tour Ronde, North Face of the Grande Jorasses, Traverse of the Drus to name a few) and also in Yosemite ( Half Dome, Salathe Wall, The Nose of El Capitan and Salathe, Lost Arrow Spire), Smith Rock in Origon, Owens River Gorge in California.
- Adrian has mountain leading and climbing qualifications and spent 12 years (until 2011) working for Ogwen Cottage in Snowdonia as a climbing instructor, walking guide and outdoor instructor for Birmingham city council - outdoor education unit. He worked extensively with children from disadvantaged backgrounds but also with adults multi-pitch climbing, instructing on SPA and ML qualifications and Team Building courses for private organisations. Before working at Ogwen he worked as on Dartmoor guiding walking groups on organised walking tours over the moors.
- Since 2011 until June 2017 he has been freelance from the edge of Dartmoor with frequent long stay visits to Skye for climbing/scrambling ridge traverses, photography, research and writing. He currently putting the finishing touches to a guide for the legendary Cuillin Ridge Traverse. Adrian is passionate about the Cuillin Hills, from the early history, climbing, events as well as the flora and fauna. He is a gentle natured person who has a wealth of experience guiding people in the mountains professionally
Bridgette Blackmore
- Bridgette grew up on the North Devon coast with Exmoor coastal cliffs and moor as a playground. Always with a passion for the outdoors and nature she spent her childhood climbing, cycling, horse riding, sailing, walking and surfing.
- On moving to Bristol for work in the early 2000's she joined a climbing club and took a number of climbing courses including a single pitch award. She spent as much time as possible climbing around the UK, Avon Gorge and surrounding areas, The Peak district, N Wales, Cornwall, Pembrokeshire, Bodmin Moor, Dorset and North Deveon Coast. She initially made a number of trips to North Wales for climbing and instruction from training Mountain Instructor Awards's. She has supported and assisted friends with their mountain leader qualifications, which meant getting involved with syllabus and assessment preparations etc.
- She loves nothing more than getting out into wilderness, mountains and coasts with her camera. Being in and seeing nature helps to give her a sense of oneness with the environment. She recently spotted a White Tailed Sea Eagle with a huge salmon on the edge of a loch on Skye and was fortunate to be able to watch this magnificent bird for 15 minutes or more. When reported to the RSPB the team there were very excited by the news as this particular eagle not having been seen for the last 4 years, so was presumed to be dead. Other encounters included being surrounded by a group of 8 youngish deer with a young stag who didn't seem to be the least bit bothered. She loves to observe nature and animal behaviour as well as to photograph when ever possible.
- She still feels there is so much to know about nature and the environment and also helps as much as possible to help to preserve and look after it.
All Things Cuillin; The Facebook Group
Having moved to Skye to pursue their dream, Adrian and Bridgette set up ATC as a group on Facebook. It has proved extremely popular and has in excess of 6000 members including walkers and climbers, photographers and artists. There is a vast collective pool of knowledge and subjects posted have included aircraft wreck archeology, mountain rescue, social history as well as the ever popular inspiring photos and information about walks and climbs. ATC is a friendly group with a great sense of camaraderie so if you have a question or just want to share memories or photos, then join in.
Winter
As Skye residents, Bridgette and Adrian are out on the hills most days and more than happy to answer questions about weather, conditions or anything else especially if people are travelling a long way.
Summer
Summer or winter, ATC brings you Cuillin news here and via Facebook and Instagram but on a more personal note, if you are passing Sconser then drop in for a drink and a chat.
